Bringing back date night

After a bunch of rough days and a lot of thinking me and B have decided to try to liven things up a bit by trying to set aside a night a week just for us. We were doing this for a while when E was first born, but as most things do when you have a child it was pushed to the side. We would always do a dinner and a movie type of deal so I think always doing the same thing all the time made it rather tedious as well.

Tonight we were planning to go to the Lady Gaga concert but she caught bronchitis and it has been moved until August 9th. Seeing as we already had made arrangements for E to be looked after tonight though we decided to do something anyways, and it’s not dinner and a movie!

We are going to take the bus and sky train to Vancouver and go to a cooking expo at BC Place. Don’t let the title make it sound duller then it is though. Apparently there will be a bunch of food to sample, and a bunch of wine to drink as well. I think there should be shopping and some demonstrations as well.

All in all though it sounds like it will be a fun night, and it really has been a long time sense me and B got out for a extended period just the two of us. With going back to work on Monday I want to make the most out of this last weekend.

How quickly a year passes

It feels like yesterday when we came home with a little baby boy! Now he is growing up so fast before my eyes and I can’t keep up with how quickly the months pass. Next Thursday, May 22 will be his first birthday! Soon after that I will be going back to work for a few days a week, and the days will continue to pass.

I remember when I was saying, “oh it will be so cool when he can sit up!” Then he was, and it wasn’t long before that turned in to just a daily activity that we let go by with out a blink or second thought. The things we were so impressed with at first, like him holding his bottle on his own, or him shaking a rattle become every day actions that hardly get a second look.

It’s the lack of looking at the little things that all of a sudden catches up to you, and you find yourself wishing that you would have paid it more mind in the midst of the cranky periods and the sleepless nights. When you stop for just a second to realize this, a year has gone by and all those little firsts are no longer firsts any more. Now you are moving on a new first, the first birthday!!

I wanted to do something small for Evan’s first birthday, but by the time I invited all his friends and my family the guest list soon grew to around 26 people! It’s funny how things never go how you plan for them to. From his birth, to his birthday things always end up totally different from how you expected them to be.

We decided to go with a sesame street theme. Evan does;t really watch much tv or anything, but I thought the characters are really cute, so why not? My friend is helping me with the cupcakes and we ordered a bunch of party supplies like plates and banners and stuff like that.

I wanted originally to make a bunch of themed style food, but with the huge amount of people that are going to be there, it was just to much work. I am going to do a bunch of food, but not put so much attention in to detail on the presentation, after all, he is only going to be 1 and will look back on his birthday on the many photos and videos I am sure that will be taken.

I am excited for next Thursday to get here and at the same time I wish it would take it’s time. My little boy is growing up so fast!
